What is TerraCotta?¶
TerraCotta is a Dynamic Resource Consolidation of instances in Openstack Clouds. TerraCotta is with reference to Neat programed by Anton Beloglazov in his Ph.D thesis “Energy-Efficient Management of Virtual Machines in Data Centers for Cloud Computing”. TerraCotta rewrote, reconstracted and enhanced Neat‘s source code in order to comply with OpenStack’s standards and be more practical in futrue production environment usage.
The major objective of TerraCotta is to improve the utilization of physical resources and reduce energy consumption by re-allocating instances using live migration according to their real-time resource demand and switching idle hosts to sleep mode[1].
